Dean Kosage: Belief During Adversity

Dean Kosage,WWDB : Rudy Giuliani has faced the test of leading during times of adversity. When asked quality is critical to great leaders, Giuliani said, “There are many qualities that make a great leader. But having strong beliefs, being able to stick with them through popular and unpopular times, is the most important characteristic of a great leader.”

Abraham Lincoln led this country in a time of great adversity. Dean Kosage Quick Quote Favorite: Lincoln Acting On His Belief

“I shall do less whenever I shall believe what I am doing hurts the cause and I shall do more whenever I shall believe doing more will help the cause. I shall try to correct errors when shown to be errors and I shall adopt new views so fast as they shall appear to be true views.” – Abraham Lincoln

Professional development programs

YOUR PERSONAL COACH"After a 11-year career in the NFL, I know firsthand the importance of good coaching. Coaches teach you the fundamentals, and our PDPs can do the same thing. They provide you with the fundamentals of this business from the leaders―the top coaches―in this business."Tim Foley, leading Quixtar-affiliated business owner and player on the 1972 Miami Dolphins' SuperBowl teamA good doctor is an educated, motivated doctor. A good engineer is an educated, motivated engineer. Professional development and continuing education is found in virtually every field, and it works."It appears that improved performance is the ultimate outcome of leading-edge firms' investment in training. They report both their own improved performance over time and higher industry performance with their counterparts."4Through Professional Development Programs, Independent Business Owners learn more about business, products, marketing, time management and more. They learn these techniques from the experts—other Quixtar-affiliated business owners—who have faced the same challenges and built successful businesses.Tapes, books and seminars can be a valuable and effective way for more people to gain the skills they need to achieve their business goals.4 ASTD State of the Industry Report, 1998PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ON THE ROADRandy Sears was a bread-truck driver in Bellingham, Wash. With few social skills, he didn't seem to have the necessary skills or credentials to make it big in business. Then one day he met Greg Duncan, who introduced Randy to the Independent Business Ownership Plan. While Randy was definitely interested in a business of his own, he didn't think he'd be able to do it. And he certainly didn't have time to attend training sessions to learn the necessary business skills.Greg helped solve that problem by providing Randy with tapes he could listen to in the truck. Over time, the messages he heard helped Randy become a more outgoing person, able to approach others to market the business opportunity and its associated products. Randy has become a leader in this business, and the reason? His desire to achieve and the professional development he received in the cab of his bread truck.Brett Deimler was reading electric meters for the power company, when he met Fred Harteis ofHarteis International. Brett, like Randy, utilized the tapes and books to develop his personal skills to start his own company and eventually walk away from his job as a meter reader at the age of 28.
